My father bought his back in the late 1970s and it is still going strong. I believe the models in the Seattle-based David Morgan catalog from which it was purchased are the same vintage as the ones in the catalog that arrived in my home this Christmas. Durable goods, no need to repackage, I guess.

As for me, Filson is also the last word in Safaricloth shirts and pants - six ounce pure cotton poplin. Lasts virtually forever, which for the price is a requirement.

I've had customers try to buy my wool Filson hunting jacket off my back, while I was marching the hills in the Deschutes Wilderness area in central Oregon in the fall, trying to shoot some of those elusive chuckars! Good enough for the Klondike, good enough for me. My coat is twenty years old. Their gear is indestructable. Raining again in Seattle.

I love this post. I wear my 'fleecy' around the house all day for the same reasons; trying to keep the heat down. Mine is not so utilitarian; it has pockets for my hands, which is key, buy little else. It is pretty damn comfy and allows me to keep at tasks in my favorite part of the house, which is my office addition with little heat. I don't know ... makes me feel at home and at work at the same time.
