David

From first glance this looks like a great way to tie in the Lenovo Brand to the Olympics on Facebook. I'll take a closer look as I get more time. In the meantime, you may want to check out the scorecard I created for Marketing Efforts on Social Networks on the Forrester site. I'll send you an email too.

Dave,

Nice to meet you. Im the CEO and founder of Citizen Sports (the company that designed, built, marketed, and currently support the Olympics communities on facebook). We have a lot of ideas about how to continue our success on facebook and around your message of supporting innovative technologies. The World Cup is in 2010, but qualifying goes throghout 2009, and given the internaitonal make-up of facebook and social media in general there is probably not a bigger opportunity in the next couple of years to engage sports audiences. It has been a pleasure to work with Alan from your team and Megan from Intel and Federated has done a great job bringing our two companies together to create such a successful and genuinely organic marketing effort.

Iceland...who would have thought...we had internal guesses and no one picked Iceland!

Thanks,

Mike

David,
Thanks for this post and for spearheading what is already one of the most innovative Olympic campaigns ever. I'm thrilled to be part of the team helping from Ogilvy and I don't mind telling you anyone from our team working on this project is the object of severe jealousy from the rest of our office. I share your passion for the Games and what this campaign represents, but also the desire to really use it to uncover those metrics that can help us truly demonstrate the real ROI of social media. It's brilliant that your focus goes beyond impressions to what this campaign really offers. It's not the free trip or even the free computers that makes this program sing. It's the fact that Lenovo technology is powering a new way for Olympic fans to experience the Games in a non melodramatic way. As someone who has lived in two out of the last three Olympic cities and experienced the Games first hand, I know these real stories are what people will seek - and being a sponsor that connects to that rather than the one offering the coolest pin at the Games is definitely where we want to be.

"I won’t divulge numbers, but we’re more than 50% of the way to our target and the Games haven’t even started yet."

What's the secret? How are you driving the traffic?
