The tell-tale quote in the article is the part where SeeWhy's founder says you should get customers to give up their email address as soon as possible. Users just won't do that for fear that you'll mail them incessantly - which is of course the impression the user would get if you were using this 'abandonment tracker pro'.

David,

I think the key is really intelligent design - build something that so clearly fills the customer need that their is no competition - they will want it, buy it, and there is no need to chase them. If you have to chase them, you don't want them - they don't get you.

He who looks away first loses. All the consumer advice, when shopping for a car and driving a hard bargain is being willing to walk away (knowing the sales rep will most likely chase you).

If merchants implemented this remarketing strategy, once it's gets out that they are doing so, how long will it be before people just visit, fill and then abandon a cart, then sit back and wait for the better offer?

I just don't see this as a smart strategy...

In my opinion...Companies that aspire to be great should study those that are great, and great companies have customers that line up for their products and services, because the products and services are compelling, not because the company chased after them...
