Boat is launched
Back from Venice and I felt the urge to get aquatic asap. So John Peck from Peck’s Boats arrived at 7:30 am and took away the boat on his trailer for a launch at the ramp at Prince’s Cove. I took the motorboat for insurance, in case the Yanmar wouldn’t start and it needed a tow back to Cotuit.
No problem. John bled the fuel system and after ten minutes of messing around I was backing out of the slip and cruising, sans mast, back to the Cotuit town down where another guy helped me step the mast and re-rig the yacht. Afternoon cruise around Grand Island with a six-pack of Sierra Nevada and all is well with the world.

Congratulations on a successful launch. John Peck truly is a genius. I watched him haul a friend’s 35-foot powerboat at Prince Cove once and was impressed by the way he handled everything with aplomb using his handheld device that looks like a TV remote. I’m told that he is unique in that he doesn’t mind dunking his trailer in the salt water. I guess most haulers prefer to have the boat placed on their trailer with a Travel Lift.
Now, if only I could find time to get the winter cover off my boat.

Leslie wants to live at the beach one day. I try to picture myself there in retirement and wonder what I would do…. I’m not much for surf fishing or laying about under the sun on beach chairs. Who knows, maybe I could have some marine & drydock business? This guy that helped launch the boat and those that helped set the mast seem to have a good thing going. If only I knew something about boats…
